Founded in 1966 by Mariano Peláez, the Marqués de Vizhoja winery is located in the sub-area of Condado de Tea, specifically within the D.O. Rías Baixas.
The vineyard area occupies almost 40 hectares settled inland, with its back to the sea. In them the most modern technology is applied as in the elaboration process that begins with a careful transport of the grapes to prevent the fruit from breaking and fermenting prematurely. Once the fruit is received, the must is elaborated, it is mixed with a certain percentage of the harvest that is left to macerate next to the skins for 24 hours. This process has been called cold semi-maceration, which takes, on the one hand, the strong character of the variety deposited in the skin of the grape, and on the other, the most fruity and delicate aromas of virgin must. The result of all this is Marqués de Vizhoja, a signature wine and the first to be produced in the Pazo La Moreira, which was followed by Torre la Moreira and Señor da Folla Verde, representatives of what are the Albariños of the area.
Throughout its history this winery has won several awards, including:
· Prize of Hospitality and Tourism of Galicia, to Mariano Peláez.
· Vino Delicioso do Ano 2004, a Señor da Folla Verde.
· Distinction awarded to Señor da Folla Verde by the Association of Sommeliers of Gallaecia.
· Inclusion in the February 2007 newsletter of the Wine Advocate, the guide of the American critic Robert Parker, who awarded 88 points to Torre la Moreira 2005.
