MINI BOTTLE GIN OINTMENT XORIGUER

The ointment is a typical drink of Menorca, which is obtained by mixing Gin XORIGUER (gin produced in Mahón, Menorca) with lemonade. The proportion generally accepted as the most suitable for its preparation consists of a third of XORIGUER and two of lemonade.

This drink is consumed mainly in summer, especially in the patron saint festivities that are celebrated by all Menorcan populations throughout the summer. It is usually served very cold and even in the form of slushie most of the time.

It was invented in 1967 by Magí Camps (a native of Mahón), and he called it ointment because of the sparkling effect that the drink took when mixed.

However, in Ciudadela, where the festivities of San Juan are celebrated, this word is not used and they choose to call the mixture simply gin amb llimonada" (gin with lemonade) or "ginet". Elsewhere on the island a ginet is a glass of gin, with nothing added.
