Desmond Payne, our master distiller, found inspiration while traveling in Japan, where he realized the potential of tea as a botanical.
In Japan, quinine was strictly banned in the production of tonics, and the soft drink used for traditional gin and tonic was much sweeter. To quench his thirst, Desmond decided to mix BEEFEATER gin with cold green tea as an alternative to the sweet local tonics.

The resulting combination of gin and tea was extraordinary and inspired Desmond to devote the next 18 months to testing and experimenting with different teas and botanical blends.
