What is absinthe?

Absinthe or wormwood, also nicknamed the Green Devil, is an alcoholic beverage of slight aniseed flavor, with a bitter background of complex dyes due to the contribution of the herbs it contains, mainly Artemisia absinthium. When cold water and sugar are added, the drink is transformed into the milky essence (louche). It began as an elixir in Switzerland, but it was in France that it became popular due to the association between artists and writers who drank this drink in Paris in the late nineteenth century until its production was banned in 1915.

How many degrees does absinthe have?

It is a wormwood-based drink that contains between 70 and 90 degrees of alcohol.

What effects does absinthe have?

Due to its high alcohol content, this drink can cause delusions and hallucinations. Other distilled beverages such as whiskey or vodka are added water to reduce their content from 90 to 40 degrees of alcohol.
